Gillian abseils for The Mayors Charity
Gillian Reader from The Dunes joined The Mayor of South Tyneside Cllr John Anglin and his wife Chris on Saturday 8th May, possibly the windiest day of the year so far, to abseil from the roof of 11 storey Westmorland Court Flats in Hebburn. It was all for a great cause, the Mayors Charities which include The Stroke Unit at South Tyneside Hospital and Toe to Toe Children's Charity. Thank you to all the sponsors who helped Gillian raise over £1400.00 for these terrific causes.

The Dunes was officially opened by The Mayor of South Tyneside Cllr John Anglin and his lovely wife Chris on Thursday 4th March 2010.
The invited guests, most of whom had worked in the design and construction of The Dunes, enjoyed Champagne & Canapes in The Brig Bar before the 'Ribbon Cutting' ceremony at 7.30pm. The guests moved upstairs to the function suites for a fabulous buffet in The Chart Room provided by Emilio's Italian Bistro.
Cllr Anglin gave a speech in which he praised the level of developement along the seafront at South Shields and hinted at further council and private investment in to our great area in the near futur.
A charming speech was given in reply by Mr Frank Newsome, former President of The Showmen's Guild of Great Britain, in which he extolled the virtues traditional seaside leisure destinations.
Special mention was made of four Dunes employees who have given exemplary service for eight years since The Dunes Bowl opened in 2002. They are Lynn Anderson, Roz Milne, Ray Kingsland and Dean Hadaway.
A great night was had by all!
ALICE DOBSON is crowned MISS DUNES
16 year old Alice Dobson was crowned Miss Dunes 2010 on Monday 5th April in a competition that saw 12 gorgeous girls from across the north east compete for a place in the final of Miss Newcastle 2101. Alice will go on to represent The Dunes and South Tyneside in the glitzy Miss Newcastle final at Newcastle Civic Centre on May 21st where they will compete against 19 other contestants from around the North East for a wide range of prizes, including automatic entry into a Miss England semi final for the lucky winner.
Everyone at The Dunes wish Alice all the very best of luck!
